Areca climbing started from the Dutch colonial era. The betel climbing competition is held by the Dutch if they are holding large events such as celebrations, weddings, and others. The people who participated in this competition were indigenous people.

The straight areca palm tree trunk is slippery because it has been given lubricant, the betel climbing participants often fall down and keep repeating until they get the prize above. The creativity and cooperation of the participants to climb the tree trunk is what usually manages to overcome the slippery trunk of the tree, and becomes an attractive attraction for the audience. The prize is then distributed to each participant.

The origin of the history of areca climbing

Areca palm climbing dates back to the days of Dutch colonialism. The procedure for this game hasn’t changed since long ago. The climbing competition is held by Dutch people if they are holding big events such as celebrations, weddings, and so on.

However, those who participated in the competition were indigenous people who were participants in the areca nut climbing. Various prizes have also been prepared which will be contested by the betel nut participants.
